Effluent Decontamination Systems

Effluent Decontamination Systems use heat, pressure and controlled exposure time to sterilize biologically hazardous wastewater before discharge. Unlike chemical decontamination systems, thermal EDS do not require chemical sterilants to be added to the waste stream. They can be connected to laboratory sinks, wash basins, drains, showers, sterilizers and other equipment producing potentially contaminated liquid waste.

The appropriate system depends on the composition and volume of the effluent, the presence of solids, the required Biosafety Level or Containment Level, and the available installation space and utilities. Batch systems collect and sterilize a defined volume of wastewater, while continuous-flow systems treat liquid as it passes through the equipment. Compact point-of-use units are available for individual sinks, instruments or smaller laboratory workflows.
